Hemmings Motor News Concours D’ Elegance has been booked for 2017 at the Charles R. Wood Festival Commons, according to Mayor Robert Blais.
Hemmings Motor News, the “bible” of the Collector Car hobbyist since 1954 is bring the world-class automotive event to Lake George Sept. 15-17. Far removed from a traditional car show the three-day event celebrates pre-1974 automobiles, selected by invitation only.
Originally held on the grounds of Stratton Mountain Resort, the New England Concours D’ Elegance consists of a rally, open-air show and a large banquet and awards ceremony. Over the years the show was expanded in size, scope and objective and was moved to Saratoga Springs.
The Concours has maintained its focus presenting a balance of historic, classic and sports cars, along with vintage trucks and presentation vehicles. Recently, the show has also honored vintage fire apparatus, police cars and military vehicles.
The show is presented by Gullwing Motor Cars and is entering its 11th year. The 2017 show will celebrate six featured marques: 1967-81 Chevy Camaros and Pontiac Firebirds, 1963-73 Buick Riviera, Studebaker, MG and wood-bodied station wagons. The Classic Car Club of America will also invite and recognize vintage trucks and American pre-and postwar cars.
“This is a remarkable event for Lake George, Mayor Blais said, “and bringing this nationally- recognized show to our area will showcase our beautiful surroundings. “ The show includes a cruise-rally throughout the North Country as well as the magnificent open-air showing.
“The event will be publicized throughout the United States in the Hemming Motor News magazine and bring national recognition to our Festival Commons”, Mayor Blais said.
The picturesque setting of the Charles R. Wood Park, at the foot of our beautiful lake, sold the organizers on the space, according to the Mayor.
This show will follow the Adirondack National Show the previous week and another car show planned for the Wild West Ranch as well.
