Lake George Village already hosting an abundance of attractions for residents and tourists has now added one more with the opening of their new dog park.
Located on Transfer Road, off route 9N (Luzerne Road) a ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, August 3rd at 11 AM. The park, constructed by DPW employees is on the site located by the former Town of Lake George land fill and presently the Lake George Recreation Center.
The Village of Lake George owns 352 acres on the side of Prospect Mountain and over the past 18 years has developed it into baseball, football and soccer fields as well as, hiking and cross-country ski trails. Plans are already underway to create mountain bike trails for the Fall of this year.
The dog park is divided and fenced into two sections for large and small dogs. There are also dog stations, water and running tubes on site. Plans call for a permanent shade structure to be constructed by Village crews. The entire area is smoke free and free of charge.
Conceptual plans were devised by a Citizens Committee comprised of Lisa Giknis, Luke Dow and Mayor Blais.
Plans call for additional equipment to be installed at the park as funds allow.
“The Village’s Recreational Center has been a great asset to our families and youth over the years and now you can add dogs and their owners to that as well”, the Mayor said.
